Formed over 500 million years ago, the Uwharries are the oldest mountain range in North America’s documented history. The range lies in the heart of Stanly County and surrounding areas.

Stanly County has many official award winning wineries in the heart of the Uwharrie Mountain Range. Located just 35 minutes from Charlotte, visitors can easily travel and visit the wineries. You can take tours of their entire commercial operations, from grape growing and crushing, to fermentation and aging, and finally to filtering and bottling; you can see how award winning wineries produce their wines from start to finish.
